More experiments on using my zoom lens.. The bicycle wasn't exactly in a best position but I like the patterned walkway.
I find that when I use the zoom lens, the picture didn't come out as clear as I wanted it to be. I don't know why this is so. I suspect that it might be the lens or the fact that the camera only takes photos up to 6megs.. Can anybody explain?

It might be the lens, but you can make do with what you got, really.
I just wonder what your focus point was. If it's actually the pavement, then at that f/stop number (f/4.2) it would throw the bike out of focus a bit.
Try bumping up the f/number a bit to say f/8 or whatever, as it would get the focus plane (I don't know the exact word, but it's the area in focus) a bit larger, so the pavement and bike would be in focus. As this will drive down your shutter speed a bit, you might wanna get a better, more steady shot, or bring a tripod.
And sometimes on some lenses, there's a sweet spot where a range of f/numbers would net the sharpest pictures. So practice with your focal length and f/numbers.
Ok.. I think I understand what u mean.. Use a larger f/ stop to make all the subject in the photo clearer. That would explain why most of my photos are not so clear on some part of it.
Thanks man.
