I always wanted to do something like this but I didn't know how to. Luckily I kept the file. This was taken 2 years ago a few days before Hari Raya with my Nikon D50.

We almost if not ever see young people polishing copperwares anymore, hence the title. I remember when I was young, I look forward to doing this as it was the only way I could get my hands dirty without being scolded at.

Needing to perfect my newly addictive processing, I had to dig deep into my library to find a photo suited for this. This was taken during my uncle's visit to Singapore, late 2008. This was with my trusty old D50.

Do you know how difficult it is trying to mask parts of the photos on your laptop without your mouse or tablet? My fingers are killing me.. Hehe!!

On another note, my next stop later today is Chicago.

This was taken way back in April 2008. Back then I didn't really know how to process photos so I just kept the file in my hard drive. Luckily for me that I did.. I only wish that I knew about different exposures then.. and also long exposures to calm the waters.

My simulator exam has been brought back to next week instead of today. I can breathe again... for now..

I'm feeling it again...

While I do appreciate the odd comments that appear in my posts, I sometime get the feeling that nobody really looks at my photos much less reads my post. I get tired of telling people where the photos were taken from when most of the time it was right in front of them (like on the photos and in the descriptions).

To be honest, I want to improve. I wish that people would say what they like about the photos I've posted or even better, what they don't like.

I also wish that I can get to know the people who come visit this site. By leaving your comments, we (everyone from iso [i, saw], okay guys?) can come visit yours and return the favour. I'm sure that each and everyone of you would like some sort of comment on your post too, right? Why else would you post your photos on the internet?

So let me start this with what I like about this photo. I like it because of the expression this old man showed me like there was a big burden weighing on his shoulders. I don't like it because its not sharp enough. D50... baaaad with low iso..

Spare me a little of your time okay guys? I would really much appreciate it.

Digging deep into my library now.. This one was taken way back in February 2007 with my faithful D50.

One of the reasons why I don't do street photography is that I find that interesting faces are so hard to come by.. but when I look at this one, it leaves me wanting to do more.

I'm getting a little fed up with this blogger thing.. I heard there was an attack on some of the servers on google, twitter, facebook.. It's a Distributed Denial of Service virus I think aka DDoS.

Since I can't upload any photos, I thought I'd just reuse some of my past time favourites which was already uploaded.

Bidding starts at ten thousand..

| Photographer said.. |

..and so begins the new project before the beginning of the new month.

The title of this project is sell your car. You can take shots of your car or your wife's car, your girlfriend's, boyfriend's, mom's, dad's, or anyone's, with different backgrounds, day or night, shoot it while its moving (preferably with someone in the car of course) or make it look like it's moving with Photoshop, you can capture the inside of the car, with all the lights on, or a close up of certain things you find interesting and make us guess what it is.

The aim of this project is to get you looking for different angles and something unique. Kinda like in a brochure, a car catalog or magazine (that's a hint if you didn't notice it.. meaning get your magazine out and steal some ideas from it). In fact, write a little something on the photo if you can and make it look like its from a magazine.

So gentlemen... start your engines..

| Remember.. |

Please write in the comment box if you have done it and want it to be link, along with it's title so I'll know which one to link. In the last project, I had to guess because I wasn't sure. Put the title as iso [i, saw] the sell your car project and then your own title..

Also, everyone loves it when someone leaves a comment about their photos. Please be considerate and leave comments on others as well without being asked.. You scratch my back I scratch yours right? We're trying to create a good photo community here, a place where we can ask questions, learn a little and, with the help of PainQler, have a little fun too. Heheh.. He's a funny guy he is.. BTW, when I said a place, I don't mean this site, I meant everyone's site.

| About the photo..|

This was shot a few months ago while I was in Brunei. I'm a little busy at the moment so I can't shoot anything new. It wasn't made to be a vertorama but I needed the space to write something on it so I joined up a different photo just to get the sky. Hehe!! The magic of photoshop.

| One more thing.. |

I won't be around for the next few days.. I'll be spending some quality time with the family. I promise I'll try to catch up on your posts when I come back. I'm sure the other ISO members will help with what they can.

Have fun guys..

Oh!!! Almost forgot.. Happy birthday oXp!! (1st May) Woohoo!!

Digging into my library now.

This was taken last December when my uncle came to Singapore with my cousins. I really had to do a lot of editing on this one just to boost the brightness and colors because it was shot in low, very low lighting conditions. The Nikon D50 didn't do too well on this. I had to set the ISO up to 400 and the results were very very noisy.

Did you take a glimpse at my shutter speed? 1/10th of a second!! Steady hands is what I've got.. Haha!!

Photo by Out Of Focus | Title - Patience Is A Virtue - Vertorama
f10 | focal length : 11mm | ISO 200 | shutter speed : various | flash : not fired

| Description |

How lucky am I!!! Hehe.. Why you ask? Well.. This was also from my library. I looked in this folder to find that I had about a few photos of different parts of this area, enough for me to make a vertorama. Hehe!!

Shutter speeds are various not because I had it adjust for different exposure to make a vertorama but because the sun was setting and had to be adjusted for light.

I wished I had known about vertorama then. This would have been a great photo.

| Photographer said.. |

Looking into my library, I noticed how crappy I was at photography.. not that I'm any better now.. The new me would have had 3 different exposures, one for the fishermen down below, one for the sea and another for the skies.

Wasn't the patches of clouds beautiful that day?

Photo by Out Of Focus | Title - Super Scooper - HDR
f13.0 | focal length : 11mm | ISO 200 | shutter speed : 1/100sec | flash : not fired

| Description |

I'm still digging in my old library here. It seems that there are quite a few photos that I thought I couldn't process but just kept it for future references.

I can't remember if I posted this one but I know I posted one excavator of some sort. I have plenty of them in my archive. oXp knows I love this vehicle. Hehe!! I have no idea why it turns me on..

I couldn't process it then because I have no knowledge of HDR.. Or the fact that I could use 2 different exposures and blend them together. Its a good thing that I like to keep my old photos.

| Photographer said.. |

I decided on HDR with this photo, oXp style.. meaning manually adjust it's exposure in Lightroom then save it as tif file then merge it in Photomatix before the the final adjustment in CS3.

I guess I'm just reminiscing the days when I could just call up a friend for an outing. These days its all about waiting to go home before I could do that.. and also planning had to do with it alot too because if go back when they're working then the outing is completely out of the picture.

The original photo was posted here if you want to have a look at it. Don't criticize how it was processed then, criticize how it's processed now.

Remember this oXp?

This was shot way back in 2007 before my wife was pregnant with my son. It was when I had this idea of going into abandon houses in Brunei and taking photos of what was left there. It took a couple of pleadings before oXp agreed with the idea. We sure had some fun then..

The next time around when I went back to Brunei, my wife got pregnant. It was decided that going into place like this (as what orang tua2 would say) was not at the best interest to what would have been and is now, my son. Biasalah.. takut barang barang yang inda baik atu ikut..

Though I'm not much of a believer in this stuff, to please my parents, I stood down. Still, prevention is the best kind of defense.

It just occurred to me now that maybe it's time we do this again come next time I'm in Brunei. What do you think oXp? Up for a fright?

| Photographer said.. |

If you click on the link above, it'll take you to the original post I did back then. It feels strange that I was impressed with what I've done with it then and that now it looks too dark, too gloomy, too dull..

I wonder what I'll do with it 2 years from now...

iso [i, saw] the way to vertorama

Photo by Out Of Focus | Title - Brief Tutorial - Vertorama
f8.0 | focal length : 11mm | ISO 100 | shutter speed : 1/1000 | flash : not fired

| Photographer said.. |

I was always told not to be karet with knowledge. So what if one does it better than you. You should be proud that it was because of you that that some one has blossom to what he has become. You should be happy that some one has taken the time to learn from you.

This is an attempt to explain how I did my vertoramas. I think there is a better description of it on the web somewhere but this one is how I went about doing it.

I wasn't planning on doing this photo because of the distracting lamp post and fishing nets in the middle of the photo but I love the way the clouds display itself that day. So here goes...

First, after some tweaking in Lightroom, I opened up the images in CS3 and then put them on a new squared canvas with a slightly larger size then the image itself.

Then I set the opacity to a lower value so that I can see through them. This was so that I can arrange them nicely together. Using the transform, distort function, I stretched the photos so that they almost align together. You an see from the bottom image that there is a line where the first photo meets the other.

I then set the opacity back to 100%, and using the level function, I tweaked on of the photo so that the brightness match as close as possible to the other photo.

Now that they are closely matched, I used the eraser tool to erase the edges of the photo. This takes a bit of time. Use a low opacity eraser and a large brush and slowly erase bit by bit then work down with a smaller brush.

This particular photo is easy to stitch because clouds are not as difficult as if you are trying to stitch buildings.

Once you're happy, merge the photos together.

Transform the photos again to fill your canvas, then select the frame and crop because by this time, if you haven't already notice, your image size is big!! I started with 189mb and ended up with over 700mb. Hehe!! So its best to discard the non visible area.

Once you're done with it, then you can start tweaking up the colors again to your liking.

Hope this short tutorial helps guys.. No more alasan ah.. Hehehe!!
