When I first discovered HDR, the one thing I wanted to do is to shoot something dark because (to me) that is when HDR is at its best. The way it was portrayed, how it lightens up the dark areas but still leaves enough shadows to create an image so stunning always amazes me.

I still have not yet mastered the art of HDR, I wasn't quite sure what I was doing with the settings on Photomatix, I wanted it to look a little more.. moody, dark and gloomy and this one just about fits that.

This photo consists of 2 parts, the sky and all else other than the sky. The sky is a one photo shot at 1/100th of a second because I didn't like the way it looked on HDR. Colors edited in Lightroom.

The all else other than the sky part is a 7 shot HDR, speeds between 1/6th to 1/100th of a second. First done in Photomatix, then blended the sky in CS3, tweaked for levels and saturation and then a little more tweaking in Lightroom.
