Kamu iski sudah kan? Hehe!! I thought I do this for tomorrow's post but since kamu iski, here it is..

Description

Nothing puts us in that mindset more than when we're composing an image with leading lines. They are the Yellow Brick Road of photography, compositional devices that take your eye on a journey through an image before returning it home again.

We use them to create a visual pathway to the subjects or to add depth and dimension to a scene. A strong leading line can make an average scene more dramatic and appealing.

What we aim to do in this project is to persuade the viewers' eyes to move along a certain path.. so lead the way guys..

Traditionally, a leading line will begin at the bottom of a photograph and move into the frame which is what we're use to seeing. However, it can also start from the top, corner or side of an image. Each has their own effect.

Since this is a learning process, I'll lead you through it. Rivers, roads, stairs, escalators, cracks on pavement, drains, pipes, tall buildings are some examples of leading lines.

Here's another example, but he could add a little more depth to it by... err.. damitkan lagi ujungnya atu.. Hehehe!! I got stuck man.. Spent 10 minutes trying to arrange my words.. Melayu sajalah.. The thing is, it has to go into the photo, if you know what I mean..

Here's another one.. and this is one of my favorites. Sorry ah, I was trying to put one from each guys who wanted to join in tapi inda tecari..

Things to remember..

Remember that you want to do better, so put a little work into it. Sabar sabar sikit and slow down. You can do HDRs or Vertoramas or the traditional way of just one *yawn* shot. Hehe!! Nolah.. Sometimes that's the best.

Don't be too clever in putting too many things in the photo and clutter up the image. Sometimes you get more with the bare minimum. Take my photo for example. The bright yellow arrow is great because it points you to a direction, but the car on the right is a distraction. In my defence, I have waited 5 days to take this photo. This was about the only time it looked empty.. Still a shme though..

Ngaleh sudah baca? Ada lagi sikit ah..

Don't forget to tweak the levels, contrast, white balance, colors and sharpen your image if you need to (hint.. if you don't know yet, the best way I find to sharpen your image is using unsharp mask in photoshop).

Camera settings.. for shooting landscapes, I usually use an aperture setting of f7.1-f11 without compromising the shutter speed so much. The higher the 'f' number (smaller opening) the sharper the photo, but with a shutter speed of lower that 1/160th of a second, you're bound to get some camera shake. Solution? Use your tripod!! Sayang bah duit bali tripod tapi inda pakai.. Mun inda pun tinggalkan saja tripod atu arah aku.. Hehe!!

I didn't use that aperture setting for this photo because one, it's too dark and I'd be using a way to low shutter speed and two, this isn't a landscape photo. Hahaha!!!

Bare in mind that I might not be right with my settings but that's what I've been using all this time.

Sounds like a lot of work right? You did asked for it.. Hehe!! So let's get cracking guys.. and have a fun weekend..

One other thing..

When you've done a post on your own site, leave a message here in the comment (comment ah.. bukan chat box), then I'll link it through..

And please comment other people's photo, good or bad. We're trying to learn right? Lesson one, learn to take critisism.

*Added*

As if I hadn't written alot sudah.. Hehe!!

Try writting a little story about your photo.. What you like, don't like, what you want to do but couldn't or don't know how to.. Who knows, maybe someone can help. Put in your camera settings jua lah.

If anyone have any questions about their own or other people's photo, ask. If anyone knows the answer, jawab saja tia, jangan tunggu aku. Bukannya aku tau semua. If anyone think otherwise about other people's answers, we'll have a gentlemen's debate over it.

Tani belajar sama sama ah...

instead of landscape, can we do it in potrait??? hehehe

Hehe!! By landscape I mean pemandanganlah.. Gambar pantai, bangunan, rumah.. anything with a big view of the ground and the sky. Bukan orientation of the photo vertical or horizontal.. Hehe!!

Love the way you think man..

I use that aperture setting for landscape photos because kalau randah numburnya, my photos won't be as sharp. In other words, I don't want bokeh for shooting things with big, wide surroundings..

so u mean the orientation of the photo(s) can be both vertical and horizontal? Cos i have one right now but in vertical orientated...hehehe care to have a look? Nda plng lawa sangat...but my setting was at F5.6 x lah masa tu

sorie bro byk tanya....one last question, what is the topic? Or we could just name it "OOF's APRIL challenge" hehehe

Out Of Focus said...

Sure man.. just post it arah ur site and we'll all take a look at it.

It doesn't matter what your setting was. I was just telling you that in my past shoots, a lower value makes my photos kabur sikit. If yours was good and sharp, then it's great.

I'm just saying what I use, you decide whats best for you..

Post it ah, but only after you do some work on it.. Ramai ni orang comment karang.. Hehe!! So better make it worth the while..
